The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. The department has 9 research groups, about 80 doctoral students and around 140 employees.

Global health is an area for study, research, and practice that places a priority on improving health and achieving equity in health for all people worldwide. It emphasizes transnational health issues, determinants, and solutions; involves many disciplines within and beyond the health sciences; and is a synthesis of population-based prevention with individual-level clinical care. PLOS Global Public Health is a global forum for public health research that reaches across disciplines and regional boundaries to address some of the biggest health challenges and inequities facing our society today. We will work alongside researchers to drive diversity at all levels—editors, editorial boards, peer reviewers and authors—to broaden the range of perspectives we learn Global Public Health at the University of Michigan School of Public Health pursues equitable, community-based practice and policy in all corners of the world.
